Friday Flicks: In Transition 1.0

Welcome to Friday Flicks, Transition Ilkley's new virtual film club.

We're planning on hosting a film club where we can watch, chat and socialise.  But we realise that not everybody can always make the dates that we choose.  So, every Friday we'll try to bring the film club into your home (or lap).

Up first, we've got the original Transition Towns film - In Transition 1.0.  It provides an introduction to the related issues of peak oil and climate change; explains how Transition started in  the UK and has spread around the world; and provides examples of some of the issues or types of projects that Transition initiatives take on.

For those who don't fancy the whole 49 minutes in one viewing, here's a quick time guide if you want to fast forward to certain sections:

15:19 - Food
23:24 - Economy (the Lewes Pound)
27:04 - Education
39:17 - Transport
42:00 - Government

If anyone has any ideas about films or vides they'd like us to feature, please let us know.

Hello world!

Hello,

We're new and still finding our way.  Come and add some colour to our journey.

Transition Ilkley was set up in July 2010. We aim to find practical ways for ordinary people to address the issues of peak oil, climate change and changing economies.  Our original inspiration came from the projects linked to the Transition Network.  We are part of the Transition Network and mulling over their model.  This really means that we're trying to find our own ways of doing things that suit our local communities best.

We focus on issues that are relevant to the local community of Ilkley and District (LS29). But our events and discussions are open to the general public and we welcome interactions with other communities.

We are a membership community organisation with a small steering group.  Membership is open to anyone.  To join, simply e-mail us at transitionilkley  at  gmail dot com (we hope you are not spambots and will be able to interpret our code!).

Feel free to add your comments and suggestions.
